Dario Argento's Profondo Rosso uit 1975 is een operatische thriller die regelmatig afdwaalt naar momenten van ontwapenende menselijkheid. De gave van de giallo, een Italiaans genre uit het midden van de vorige eeuw van exuberant stijlvolle - en gruwelijke - films, was het creëren van glamour uit pulp. Onze Profondo Rosso is tot leven gebracht uit de resten van onze vakantie-excessen. In de vroege dagen van het nieuwe jaar, nadat de koorts is gaan liggen, knippen en scheuren we restjes uit onze afvalbakken om collages te maken. De meeste worden het hele jaar door als kaarten gegeven, maar zes van de composities passen in elkaar als een puzzel. Of een giallo. Kers met uitgesneden contouren in porselein en inktzwart.
