Dario Argento’s 1975 Profondo Rosso is an operatic thriller that frequently wanders into moments of disarming humanity. The gift of the giallo, a mid century Italian genre of exuberantly stylish - and gruesome - films, was in conjuring glamour from pulp. Our Profondo Rosso was brought to life from the remains of our holiday excesses. In the early days of the new year, after the fever quiets down, we cut and tear away scraps from inside our waste bins to make collages. Most are given as cards throughout the year, but six of the compositions fit together like a puzzle. Or a giallo.Salty Pink with carved outlines in lilac, inky black, gumball, berry, curious blue, and cream. This rug is from our Profondo Rosso rug collection. The 1975 print quality is stunning, and those moments of quiet humanity between the stylized violence really caught me off guard. I've watched it twice in one week and noticed something new in the framing each time.

The Profondo Rosso blu-ray arrived quickly, and the print quality really brings out those lush, operatic colors in the final act. It’s the kind of transfer that makes you notice the humanity in the quieter scenes, not just the stylish violence.

The way this 1975 film balances its operatic violence with these sudden, quiet human moments is what really got me. You can feel the care put into this release, and that giallo style comes through beautifully.
